Message I finally got around to installing my Z1 intercoolers this past week. The install went fairly smooth. I just couldn’t keep my polished protective grille mesh behind the IC inlets, as these pigs are thick as all hell, so they run right up into the bumper. I’ll put that back on this winter when I do my fog light ducts.

While I was in there I replaced my front engine shield and both fender liners. My venturis were missing, so bringing it back to new was important for me. I also replaced one of the stock horns with a FIAAM Freeway Blaster, which is loud as all hell. However, it decided to stop working the next day. I gotta look into that. I also did the carbon canister bypass and removal (thanks Robo, great site). Enough babbling, here are some pictures.

Z1 vs Stock. More than double the core volume.

Pretty blurry, but look at the restrictive fins of the OEM ICs.

Compared to the Z1 fins

Passenger side installed

Carbon Canister installed

I’m also a part-time magician… viola, no more CC

Here you can really see how much more room there is behind the IC with the CC gone. The overflow reservoir doesn’t affect the flow as much as you might think. The CC was a bigger restriction.

So thanks to Joe (NoVA) for the smooth transaction, Robo for the awesome website and CC removal write up, and to my friend Santiago for helping me get the fascia back on perfect.

Review:
Holy Shit. With test pipes, Z1 IC’s, UR UDP, and new fender liners, I have next to 0 lag on a stock turboed TT. Wow. Unbelievably fun to drive. This has completely solidified my upgrade stance. I am not going to be shooting for huge HP. I will be shooting for big HP with the least lag possible.

Fitment, the Z1 IC’s bolt up to stock brackets and ducts with no issues. I used a little silicone lubricant on the outside of the IC pipes to slide into the OEM hoses. A little massaging of some factory brackets for the fascia is required, but nothing major. Once the bumper is back in place, you can see small bumps where the IC’s are. Barely noticeable, but they are there.

That’s all folks, thanks for looking :D
